Effective August 10, 2026
Tally exists to show how communities feel about public issues and how elected officials act on them. That only works if people trust the app with honest answers, so this policy is written to be read, not skimmed past.
What we collect
- Account: your email address and a password (held by our database provider, Supabase; we never see or store the password itself).
- Profile you give us: display name, city, party, date of birth, sex, and race, all self-reported. Your home district, looked up from an address you type; the address itself is discarded immediately and only the district is saved.
- Activity: your 1 to 5 weigh-ins on topics, bills, and officials, and what you follow.
- Notifications: a push subscription token if you turn device notifications on.
- Without an account: everything stays in your browser's local storage and never reaches our servers.
How it is used
- Your weigh-ins are combined into aggregate counts: how a district, a party, or an area leans on an issue. That is the product.
- Your district decides which officials appear as yours and which aggregate your ratings join.
- Your party, age, sex, and race only ever appear inside aggregate counts with minimum group sizes. Your individual answers are never displayed to anyone, including officials.
What we never do
- We never sell your data.
- We never show any person's individual ratings to anyone.
- We never run advertising or cross-site tracking.
Where your data lives
Accounts and weigh-ins are stored with Supabase and protected by row-level security, meaning your rows are readable only by you. The app is served by Vercel. We use privacy-respecting page analytics (counts of visits, no cross-site tracking, no ad identifiers).
Your controls
- Download my data in Settings exports everything Tally has about you as one file.
- Clear activity in Settings erases your ratings and follows, locally and from your account.
- Delete my account in Settings permanently erases your account and everything attached to it, immediately and in-app. Email works too if you prefer.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will say so before the change applies. Questions or deletion requests: joshafidel@gmail.com.
